We provide environmental technologies for municipal and industrial clients in the fields of water and air treatment, waste treatment as well as energy recovery. We are committed to reduce our clients water, energy, waste and carbon footprint.

We are a market leader in biogas production from industrial wastewater treatment and our municipal wastewater treatment plants are amongst the largest on the African continent. We provide safe drinking water in countries with water shortage. Our air competence center is located in France and counts more than 500 references in cleaning off-gas en flue gases. Our thermal treatment solutions are state-of-the-art designs capable of treating large volumes of municipal, industrial and medical and waste and waste. We are a pioneer in the production of green energy from organic waste, our biomass-to-energy plant in Ieper is our R&D center and a reference in biogas production.

Our services range from design and build to the operation and maintenance of treatment plants. The Waterleau global office is located in Wespelaar (Haacht), but our network of local offices is spread around the world. Our track record counts more than 5000 references in 85 countries.

Automation Engineer

As an Automation Engineer, you will be responsible for managing the complete automation process of the Waterleau projects.


  • You are responsible for programming the PLC and SCADA software for Waterleau processes and installations.
  • You will design the automation architecture and select the PLC and SCADA for both hardware and software according to specifications, P&ID, standards and installation requirements.
  • You are responsible for the integration with IT applications, databases and industrial networks.
  • You are responsible for the functional operation of the plants and for the implementation of the FAT and SAT of the software in collaboration with the engineering and start-up team.
  • You will coordinate and do the follow-up order changes.
  • You work with the engineering and maintenance teams and you are an anchor point for your After Sales and Operations & Maintenance colleagues.
  • You stay informed of new developments in automation equipment, software and systems.


  • At least 3-5 years of experience in the following PLC and SCADA systems: Siemens Step7 and TIA Portal, Rockwell Automation RSLogix, Schneider Modicon , SCADA systems WinCC, RS and FT View or Citect. Good knowledge of fieldbus technology like Profibus, Profinet and Modbus.
  • Knowledge of Python, Django, JavaScript, Databases like SQLite, PostgreSQL or MySQL.
  • A proven track record of preparing and following URS, FDS, FAT and SAT documentation.
  • Fluent in Dutch and English as well verbally as in writing. French is a plus
  • Analytical profile, detailed, quality seeker
  • Team player, hands-on, capable of working under pressure
  • Prepared to travel (25% of the time)
